I received an email this week from a chap called Andrew, offering to write content for my blog.
I already from time to time publish Guest Posts on this site – like this one by Uniquecapture, as there are some SEO benefits to be gained by doing so.
I’ve explained in previous posts why this is and so today I thought I’d highlight how I’ve changed the way I blog recently and the effect that this has had on readership.
You see I always assumed that nobody was ever reading my posts – my entire reason for posting in the first place was just to get some links online in an effort to boost the SEO perfomance of sites or pages that I really cared about.
I didn’t give much consideration as to weather the posts themselves were of a good quality or not. I figured that Google may be many things, but would unlikely in my view be particularly interested in the literary value of what I was posting.
When It Comes To News Post SEO, Quality Counts
I saw the light when I was asked to work on a new website for Stonac Ltd in Milton Keynes. Stonac are Management Consultants, they offer help and expertise to blue chip companies in the fields of Process Improvement, Project Leadership and Coaching & Mentoring.
The Stonac website contains an extensive collection of posts and case studies that stretch back for a number of years. A mere glance through this wealth of content was enough to confirm that Fiona and Stuart (The directors of Stonac Ltd) really know their onions.
I was so impressed that I realised I needed to convey the same level of authority and knowledge about my own professional field. Ergo I had to start writing quality articles. Ones that would help people, offer valuable content and that would entertain whatever readers that were visiting.
I was surprised at the consequences because since making this change I’ve been invited to write regular posts for other websites.
If she were reading this, Mrs Simpkins my old English teacher at school would be giving herself a well earned pat on the back because as she could tell you, I’ve always struggled with the idiosyncrasies of the written word. Give me the logic of mathematics or computer code over the arbitrary variance of the English language any day of the week.
My Blog has now started attracting regular interest from return visitors. The social shares and bookmarks that these people have created is now resulting in improved SEO performance of other parts of this site.
This has also improved my traffic levels immensely and lowered my website’s bounce rate. My posts acts like a collection of gateway pages because they contain many search terms and key phrases that searchers are seeking and because these references occur in a natural way, they are Panda friendly. Additionally, a high percentage of visitors seem to get curious and end up clicking other links and so find their way into traffic funnels which have been set up to concentrate visitor flow towards pages with purchasing opportunities.
It’s widely accepted among SEO professionals that spammy, low quality posts actually harm your domain so we can conclude that when it comes to posting news on your website, as with so much in life, if the job’s worth doing it’s worth well.
