I’ve received a number of comments in response to my recent posts. I’ve been banging on a bit of late about how too many people sacrifice the effectiveness of their website in order to achieve a good rank in search engines. To me, this is a mistake because your site’s conversion rate underpins it’s commercial success and so not even for the promise of more traffic would I ever consider diluting the messages that I need to get across to visitors.
A number of people have written in to correct my “misguided viewpoint” and a few have even assumed that I’m just probably not very good at SEO, for us to buck the trend of conventional wisdom in this way but that’s simply not the case. This has been beautifully illustrated by my wife Sara‘s recent postings on our Facebook page, she’s created a number of slides which disproves this fact and features our client’s sites at the top of the rankings.
So we’re not anti-seo, and it’s not that we believe that being well placed in search engines doesn’t matter, it just we wouldn’t sacrafice our convertion rate to achieve it.
