Sunday morning opportunity knocks for local web designer

Those who know me well, know that I’m certainly no hard core drinker. It’s not that I have any predisposition against alcohol, nor is it part of any religious commitment I just kind of grew out of it in my twenties or maybe it’s just my body telling me that I’m not very good at dealing with hangovers. Even so once or perhaps even twice a year I forget this fact and down a few pints of Antie Stella. Such was the case this particular weekend when I visited Oxford with my family for surprise birthday 30th party.

I eventually climbed into bed at about 6:40am on Sunday morning looking forward to so much needed rest but a few hours later I was awoken by a knock on the front door which triggered my dogs to raise the intruder alarm.

“Do you remember me?” asked the cheerful young chap on my door step.

The face I vaguely rang bells but I couldn’t place him and probably wouldn’t of been able to even if I had been able to focus properly.

“Errrmmmm”, I hesitated.

“It’s Frank, you were going to build a website for me last year”

Distant bells were ringing somewhere in the fog of my mind. Then it clicked.

“You’re a Landscaper or Tree Surgeon, am I right?” I asked.

Frank and I had had a conversation on my doorstep about nine months earlier when he and his labour had knocked me up while trying to drum up some work during a quiet spell. We got chatting about his business and he explained that he needed cheap website for the firm. At the time he’d seemed quite keen for me to create one for him but he never followed up on the initial interest. I was pretty busy back then and so I hadn’t gone out of my way to chase up him either.

I must have made the right impression though because here he was, keen as mustard again and eager to get his website built and earning him money.

We now have our first production meeting booked in for this Tuesday and so in the coming weeks I will be creating a website to showcase his portfolio of works. This only goes to serve as a reminder that as a freelance web designer, the more conversations I can have with as many different prospects the better it is for my business even if at first it doesn’t initially appear like I’m onto a winner.
